There’s been lots of talk about this and we here at the Splog think it is our duty to keep you abreast of the latest. We scour countless news sources for the stories that affect your life, sources like ElectricNet. ElectricNet broke the news yesterday (and by “broke the news” I mean they posted a press release from Progress Energy) that Levy County is looking very much like the new home of 2 nuclear power plants.
Granted this news doesn’t guarantee they’ll be built, that will be left up to Progress Energy, however it definitely paves the way. You may be thinking “where the hell is Levy County?!” to which I would respond “what are you, a complete idiot?!” Levy County is of course home to major cities like Bronson, Yankeetown, Otter Creek and Lebanon Junction. Seriously, what a dumb question for you to ask.
The heart of Levy is roughly 130 miles north of us, not terribly far away. There were cases of cancer related to the Chernobyl disaster reported as far as 310 miles away. Doh! But hey, what could go wrong, this is Florida we’re talking about!

got a tip?

Aw c’mon dude. What are you? Anti science? When they’re not melting down, Nukes are one of the most climate-friendly options. “Go nuclear or learn to swim” is like my personal motto.
im not sure i can handle glowing, 3-eyed manatees.
Levy county is also home to the town of Inglis. They are the town that outlawed Satan in 2001.
Yeah, Progress Energy doesn’t need the energy yet………but if they can get us to pay for it, in advance, including paying for destroying 1,000’s of acres of parks and preserves, why not do it? Wouldn’t it be nice if the rest of us could get the public to fund our business for us?
I live about ten miles north of the proposed nuke plant in Levy Co. We already get test warnings and the like due to the Crystal River plant. I don’t even want to imagine what the heck having some nice big reactors practically in my site line will lead to. And this is supposed to be the “Nature Coast.” Yeah…
Al I know is that I’ll be as far away from Levy as possible by the time the thing is built. Can’t help but think that plenty of other residents will join me. Isn’t there any way to stop this garbage?
And McCain wants more nukes. Great…
