I particularly like the way there was a blog... ooops, changed our minds, now there's not. Also, the domain name reflecting the owner's name, address and phone / email seems kind of rookie. It should at least be a front company or generic contact info.

Where are the pictures of St Pete or Pinellas on their website? I've lived here for 16 years and don't recognize any of those stock 'feel good' melting pot photos. And what's with the Bic Pen image? I don't think 'hey, let me go see some baseball, and by the way, where the hell is my Bic Pen?'

Rant off. They got themselves a website and I'm sure they're getting more than their share of feedback :)

You have to love the stock photos of multi-ethnic families. Nothing says "Let's build the ballpark" like Barack and Michelle. Now how about a terrorist fist bump? Seriously, some more animated gifs would've done this site well.

But anyway, here are some quick facts about this "St. Pete" grassroots organization:

The registered agent’s address is in TAMPA, FL

Nancy Watkins is GOP campaign finance consultant. Of course, this type of non-profit can collect money and use it for campaign purposes.

The President’s address is in SEMINOLE, FL

Jeff Lyash (President) is President and CEO of Progress Energy

The Secretary’s address is in MADEIRA BEACH, FL

Nancy Loehr (Secretary) is Community Relations South Coast Manager for Progress Energy

The Treasure’s address is in PALM HARBOR, FL

Mark Wimberly (Treasurer) is a Regional Vice President with Progress Energy

Good point. But what's more important, perfect backend code or actually achieving the objective defined by the client?

I'm not saying it's cool to have a "choking hazard" of a website, but a non-css-snob-approved site that does what its supposed to do is WAY better than a zen garden masterpiece that does not.

Championing results over everything else is how you end up with websites that are the equivalent of a lead-tainted choking hazard. I'm pretty sure it's a similar attitude that also explains the current mortgage implosion. There's obviously a continuum, which is why Target is good for some things, and custom design and carpentry are good for others.

Excuse me, but I'd like to point out that, despite my strong desire to follow ABC's every pronouncement, their site lacks an RSS feed. I'm a busy guy, and I must have access to updates at all times. AND I notice that there are no invitations to join ABC on a social network or microblogging app. No, no, this is just unacceptable. Something is wrong here, and I won't have it.
Calling all social media marketeers: I see an opportunity here.

Results.

That's what matters most.

Style. Execution. Technique. Expertise.

Definitely important.

But the ability to get results is the true measuring stick. I'll take best results over "best practice" any day.

I can't believe I might be about to say something nice. Shit. Yeah, beyond the design itself, the code is really clean. Man, I think I pulled something saying that. Wait . . . ok, that "clearfix" shit breaks in IE8. Amateurs! Ok, now I feel better.
