Have ya’ll noticed the new bus lane added on 1st Ave S running basically from the Trop down to the water? I have a conspiracy theory that this is one of the first pieces of construction for the new stadium. Since they know peeps will be parking farass away it would make sense to create lanes specifically for PSTA/Looper Trolley access to speed up shuttling to and from the games. In that city staff analysis report I mentioned yesterday they talk about closing portions of 1st St S during games for a similar purpose. Hmm, related? Or is there actually so much PSTA use along 1st Ave S that a lane just for the buses makes sense?

The 1st Ave work has been planned for years, and will extend the Pinellas Trail from the other side of 34th Street to the waterfront. Cool is that it will force a new traffic light on 34th right where that bridge is next to Gibbs - the bridge sucks for bikes, so cars will ahve to stop. And , the trail will run right though the tunnel in the old GTE printing plant

I’d love to see the bus that could fit down that “bus lane.” It’s only about seven feet wide, and doglegs at every intersection. Unless Sadra Bullock is driving and balancing the bus on two wheels the whole way, it isn’t going to happen.
Um, do you EVER actually check your facts before you spout off online? Did you even actually LOOK at the new lane? It’s a bike lane, clearly and obviously so. And a bike lane that’s been planned for years as an extension of the Pinellas Trail.

Personally, I think moving the stadium is a bad idea. That being said, it doesn’t mean that I’m going to ignore the fact that the “bus lane” is comically too small to serve that purpose. I realize Casey may have been half joking in the post, but other people seem to be taking it at face value.

Guys, guys, guys. Everyone calm down. There is a reasonable explanation for all of this.
What you don’t realize is that St. Pete plans to save a lot of fucking money by shrinking the buses to about 1/4 their current size (perfectly to scale only much smaller). They will unfortunately have to replace all the current drivers with “little people” and will only hold about 5-6 passengers, sitting hunched over on the floor, but it will be worth it yo!
We’ll save money AND make it look like our public transit is way popular since our buses will always be full. It’s totally the same shit their doing with school enrollment and test scores.
